Gilbert, West Branch and AGWSR won the Class 3A, Class 2A and Class 1A?boys’ golf state championships on Friday.?
This was West Branch’s sixth state title in program history. The Bears barely edged the field for the 2A victory, finishing at 68-over par. Grundy Center finished second at 69-over and Lake Mills, which led after Thursday, rounded out the top three at 70-over. Will Bridges led West Branch, finishing in sixth place at 11-over.
Gilbert (3A) and AGWSR (1A) made history by winning their first boys’ golf state titles in their program histories. AGWSR won its title comfortably, finishing 113-over par, 10 strokes ahead of second-place Newell-Fonda at 123-over. Ben Macy led AGWSR, finishing third at 16-over. Gilbert won its 3A title by the largest margin of all three classes,?29?strokes. It finished 67-over and second-place Solon finished 96-over. Brock Snyder led Gilbert’s effort?at 8-over, good for fourth?place individually.
Individually, Harris-Lake Park’s Lucas Gunderwon won the 1A title at 7-over par. In 2A, Beckman Catholic’s Nathan Offerman won at 5-over par. And Waverly-Shell Rock’s Hogan Hansen?won the 3A title at 5-over, two?strokes ahead of the field.

Hudson, which finished fourth in the 2A field at 77-over, and Lake Mills tied for the lead in all three classes with five par-breakers apiece; Hudson logged three birdies and two eagles, and Lake Mills finished with five birdies.
The Class 4A tournament took place in the fall. Waukee won the team title by finishing 29-over par and Pleasant Valley took second at 45-over. Individually, Waukee’s Jack Starr earned first place at 3-over and his teammate, Brock Seiser, finished in second place at 4-over.
