Professional esports team UndeRank has bested some of the best squads in Southeast Asia to become the sole Malaysian representative at the upcoming Arena of Valor World Cup (AWC) 2021.
According to MyGameOn, UndeRank booked their berth at the main event after putting up a dominant performance at the recently concluded online regional qualifiers that involved some of the most formidable AOV teams from Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore.
In the qualifiers that took place on May 28, UndeRank took down team Impunity from Singapore with a score of 2-0 before facing off against team Philppines in the semi-finals. The Filipinos were no match for UndeRank, who won the best-of-five series with a clean sweep (3-0).
In the finals, UndeRank faced off against fellow Malaysian team M8 Hexa in a best-of-seven series. They eventually won the match 4-1 after dropping only one map in the derby. With their victory, UndeRank will compete with some of the best teams in the world for a slice of the US$500,000 prize pool.
UndeRank has been placed in Group C, where they will be pitted against Bacon Time from Thailand and Archangel from Indonesia.
The other competing teams from Southeast Asia are Dewa United Esports from Indonesia, and Team Flash, Saigon Phantom and V Gaming from Vietnam.
