Hollywood star Russell Crowe is to play the role of a tech billionaire in a psychological thriller called Poker Face. The movie is about Jake, played by Crowe, exacting revenge on his childhood friends over a sinister game of poker.
When Jake invites his “friends” over to his Miami estate for a friendly home game, he has in mind an elaborate scheme. The master game player and strategist has a love/hate relationship with those he considered friends during his childhood, but now he wants to settle some old scores.
According to Deadline, Jake’s “…Miami mansion is overtaken by a dangerous home invader whose previous jobs have all ended in murder and arson,” which puts an unexpected spin on the evening.
So this isn’t going to be a poker movie in the style of Rounders, but it’s always good to see our game appearing in popular culture no matter what the context. Also, rumour has it that Natalie Portman might be Crowe’s co-star, making this a high-profile production. Principal photography was scheduled to have started last month but no release date is known as of yet.
